Winters in Vermont offer more to do than just skiing and riding! Although these are popular sports, other outdoor activities abound. Guests can take in the pure and simple beauty of Vermont by just snapping on a pair of snowshoes and heading out our front door. Or for more adventure, let the inn assist in scheduling a snowmobile tour! Take a look at all that is nearby:

Skiing and Riding

Bolton Valley Resort
Located next door to the Black Bear Inn, where over 300″ of snow fall each winter. Enjoy ski-on/ski-off access to their trails. Some of the best night skiing & riding in the area, with 4 lifts. Discounted lift tickets available at the Inn for day or night riding/boarding. And cross-country skiiers are able to experience the extensive, well-maintained 100-km network of trails outside our door.

Stowe Ski Area
Located about 35 minutes from the Black Bear Inn. North on Route 100 to route 108 to ski area.

Sugarbush Ski Resort
Located in Warren, Vermont – only about 35 minutes southeast from our Inn. South on Route 100.

Mad River Glen Ski Area
Located 35 minutes southeast of the Inn, off of route 100 in Whitfield, Vermont.

Dog Sled Tours

Stowe Snowmobile Tours
Experience the thrill of crusing through fresh powder in the pristine forest of Stowe, Vermont. For the beginner to expert, Stowe snowmobile tours takes you over miles of trails through blue-spruce woods and breathtaking views of the Worcester Mountain range. Snowshoe Trekking

Bolton Valley Resort
Enjoy over 35 kilometers of trails just steps from the inn. Bring your own equipment or rent at the Bolton Valley Nordic Center. Every Saturday from 2-4pm the Center offers two-hour guided snowshoe tours on groomed and backcountry trails. This is a great introduction to snowshoeing and teaches the basic techniques. Explore the forests and mountains; learn about the history of the trails while searching for signs of wildlife. 802-434-6876.

Catamount Family Center
40 kilometers of trails including 3 kilometers of lighted trails for night snowshoeing. Guided treks available throughout the season. Great hills for sledding also!

The Ice Center
12 minutes from the Inn, this community center located in Waterbury is open daily from 9am. Night skating available.
