Vermont Driving Tours

The Inn has created six unique driving tours for it's guests, ranging from 75 to 158 miles in length. All the tours touch upon the Green Mountain State's unspoiled landscape, historical attractions, and shopping/dining spots. While all the tours have been created to originate from the Inn, many can be followed on the trip to the area!

Barre and Montpelier - the "Pink Tour"
The town of Barre is considered "the Granite Capitol of the World". It's importance to the economy of our region is incredible. This 75 mile tour will take you for a walking tour of a quarry, and also to Montpelier (the nation's smallest state capitol). Make sure to leave time for a stop at a Maple Farm at the end.

The Northeast Kingdom & Cabot Cheese - the "Orange Tour"
This tranquil, 158 mile drive heads east from the inn and showcases perhaps Vermont's most rural landscape. The "Kingdom" is full of covered bridges, scenic photo opportunities, and lakes. The Cabot Cheese factory and tour is on the way and worth a stop.

Route 100 and Middlebury - the "Green Tour"
This 95 mile trek heads south from the Inn and quickly steers drivers onto Route 100, which is considered one of the most scenic roads in the country. Spectacular mountain views span the entire route. A stop in the town of Middlebury is included, and brings drivers home on Route 7, which is full of important Vermont attractions.

Covered Bridges & Woodstock - the "Yellow Tour"
This tour offers motorists two options on how to spend their day--either discovering covered bridges, or quaint towns and farms. Both commence at Quechee Gorge, otherwise known as "Vermont's Little Grand Canyon".

Lake Champlain Islands - the "Blue Tour"
This 110-mile trip offers a unique tour of "Vermont's West Coast". Surprisingly, this tour is steeped in history and gives a chance to experience Vermont from a much different perspective. Snow Farm Vineyards is a must stop on this tour.

Waterbury, Stowe, and The Notch - the "Purple Tour"
By far the area's most popular drive, this 90-mile trek highlights the some of the most important attractions in the state, including the Ben & Jerry's Factory Tour and Cabot Cheese Annex Store. In non-winter months, be sure to drive through "the Notch"--a narrow pass through the Green Mountains, lined with 1,000-foot cliffs. In the earlier days, only a footpath and trail for horses existed here.
